DIFFERENCE IS THE ESSENCE OF HUMANITY. DIFFERENCE IS AN ACCIDENT OF BIRTH AND IT SHOULD THEREFORE NEVER BE THE SOURCE OF HATRED OR CONFLICT. THE ANSWER TO DIFFERENCE IS TO RESPECT IT. THEREIN LIES A MOST FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLE OF PEACE: RESPECT FOR DIVERSITY.

Ours is a generation that is looking to associate with things that define us. Like picking that particular shade amidst the various hues of colours. We're also a generation that is looking inwards for peace, trying to overcome the physical boundaries and borders that restrict us. In a world so quick to judge and often quicker at segregating, what defines the essence of humanity? Is it our gender? Is it our clothing? Our language or the colour of our skin? Or are we virtually bound to a framework that is beyond what meets the eye?
Ours is a generation built on ideas. When I started my research on Tribana a few years ago, I spent a considerable amount of time covering the vast length and breadth of this country. And what started as an aim to bring the best of this country in form of sustainable crafts through ethical business practices, ended up in being a study of the essence of people. I met the dark-skinned and the fair-skinned, the ethnic and the primitive, of various customs, beliefs and varied linguistic abilities. What I will always remember is that I could associate with many of them in various different ways and to various degrees. What we often think defines us, is the very cause of our isolation.
In far-flung areas, with people so very different from me, I have often found my tribe and hence Tribana, inherently, became the idea that brings communities together.
Our urban tribal collective, is not only a collective of various products, but also of the people that belong to these communities. I hope that the products and stories of the people of Tribana will testify the ideas that will bring change. Ideas that will build more bridges, plant more seeds, rise up from the flames and ideas that will build our modern tribes.

You may very often forget, but we will always remind you that we are all in this together. And you, you are our tribe.
